Camembert is a type of cheese similar to Brie. You could have it with toast, or as little cubes in salads and pastas. But when you bake this cheese, it turns into a rich, warm, gooey liquid – so I recommend baking it, if you haven't already. It's somewhere between the mozzarella on pizza and the orange cheddar dip you get with nachos. It's everything in between and better.
This recipe is extremely simple and requires little effort, so it's perfect for those cold rainy days that always seem to make you want to stay under warm and fuzzy blankets.
INGREDIENTS:
A wheel of Camembert, around 250g (preferably a small wheel, about 10cm in diameter)
A drizzle of maple syrup/honey (optional)
A sprinkle of dried/fresh herbs (pick your favourite, but I used rosemary, thyme and parsley)
2 pieces of white bread
3 cloves of garlic, minced
1 clove of garlic, sliced
150g of butter
Two drizzles of olive oil
METHOD:
Camembert
Preheat oven to 180ºC/350ºF
If your cheese comes with a wooden box, you may opt to remove any plastic packages around it and place the cheese back into the box. Otherwise, you can also put it in a ramekin or any oven-safe bowl you might have at home.
Make a few cuts lengthwise, about 3cm apart, on the top of the cheese with a butter knife.
Slide the slices of garlic and sprigs of herbs into these cuts.
Drizzle the maple syrup or honey and olive oil over the cheese and sprinkle more herbs on it.
Bake it in the oven (on a baking tray in the middle) for 10 minutes, or until the middle of the cheese has melted.
Garlic Bread Soldiers
To make it easier to mix, cut the butter into smaller cubes.
Add the minced garlic and some herbs.
Once the garlic butter is well mixed, spread it onto the slices of bread. (You may choose to do this on one or both sides of the bread)
Then, cut the pieces of bread into (about) 4cm wide slices, or to your preference.
Toast them alongside the Camembert until golden.
Assembly
On a platter, arrange the bread soldiers around the baked camembert dip and serve immediately.

This is great as a snack, a quick breakfast or as a late-night alternative to potato chips. Although, you could just bake the camembert and dip chips in it too.
